Energy – also known as Chi, Ki, Qi, Prana, Force – is all around us. All living entities – birds, flowers, trees and even us – are manifestations of energy. Working with energy is a gifted skill, to some it may seem out of the ordinary, but really it is science-minded with a history dating back to the beginning of man. It is working with the body’s dynamic electromagnetic field (Aura) to rid the body of dis-harmony or stagnant patterns and bring the energies back into proper balance. Energy therapists have different skills and techniques for sensing this force ranging from the gift of seeing, hearing or feeling energy.
Although still unfamiliar to some, energy work can be dated back thousands of years. The seven chakras, the energy transmission centers of the body, were first described in ancient Hindu texts. Meridians, the energy superhighways of the body, helped lead traditional Chinese medicine practitioners to develop acupuncture. Energy healing is based on scientific principles. We all learned in high school physics class that matter is made up of molecules. Even something that is solid, such as a table, is vibrating all the time. As humans, we, too, are vibrating. When we talk about “vibes” we are often describing someone’s vibrational frequency. Happy people tend to vibrate on a higher frequency.
Places have vibrations, too. When you walk into a room where a fight may have just occurred, you may feel a dense energy that makes you uncomfortable or want to leave right away. The beach has a light vibration due to the salt (a natural energy cleanser) and moving air. The air at the beach vibrates at a higher frequency as well.
The Aura which is Greek Meaning “Breeze” surrounds anything that has a vibration, humans, animals, plants and crystals and can sometimes be seen with the naked eye. Aura is the flow of life and is the energy that operates our physical body, our auric field exists of different layers, each of them having their own connection with our psychical body and reacting and working individually. The seven-layered auric field or seven bands connects our physical body to our spiritual body. It is said that all our lives experiences, memories and emotions are held within our auric field. This is where one of the places that psychics can get their information from, along with our chakra system, as each is connected to the other.
Our body is more than just physical and mental, in addition to the Aura, it’s also an energetic system called chakras. Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means wheel or cycle. There are seven main chakras situated along the spine, from the base of your spine to the crown of your head.
Chakras are thought to provide subtle energy that helps your organs, mind, and intellect work at their best level.
Energy work helps to facilitate healing and re-aligns the energies of the body. Some modalities are done working within the client’s personal aura and chakras and very little body contact is made, but yet has a powerful effect on the individual. Sensations may include warmth, tingling, and a lightening up or total relaxation.
Some forms of energy work include:
Reiki is an energy healing technique that promotes relaxation, reduces stress and anxiety through gentle touch. Reiki practitioners use their hands to deliver energy to your body, improving the flow and balance of your energy to support healing.
Mikao Usui, a Buddhist priest, developed reiki in the early 1900s, deriving the term Reiki which is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy." Now, reiki is used all over the world, including in hospitals and hospices, to complement other forms of health treatments.
An amazingly simple technique to learn, the ability to use Reiki is not taught in the usual sense, but is transferred to the student during a Reiki class. This ability is passed on during an "attunement" given by a Reiki master and allows the student to tap into an unlimited supply of "life force energy" to improve one's health and enhance the quality of life.
The Usui system of Reiki is more than the use of the Reiki energy. It must also include an active commitment to improve oneself in order for it to be a complete system. The ideals are both guidelines for living a gracious life and virtues worthy of practice for their inherent value.

Shamanism is the most ancient form of healing, practice by humans worldwide. Thus, shaman is an ancient term for a healer. Shamanism is a spiritual practice and a belief system and is a cross-cultural spiritual path practiced in every continent of the world. Many formalized religions, from Buddhism to Christianity, came from ancient shamanic roots and still bear the shamanic threads of deep connection to the divine in all things. But shamanism itself is not a formalized system of beliefs or an ideology. Although some people consider shamanism a religion it has no dogma, pope, a sacred book or any universal set of rules or commandments. In fact, many indigenous shamans around the world are Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist and practicing members of many different religions
Shamans work with the spirit or the soul. They heal illness at the soul level. They gain knowledge and insight from working with the spirits of nature such as rocks and trees, the land, spirits of animals and their ancestors. For the shaman, everything is alive and carries information. You can call this spirit, energy, or consciousness.
